Architecture Sarasota MOD Weekend 2022
The Sarasota MOD Weekend’s 2022 theme ” Tropical Modernism” was all together quite different from past MOD themes that often would choose a specific individual mid century modern architect from the Sarasota School of Architecture to honor.
“Tropical Modernism: Climate & Design” – the 2022 theme which focused on the visionary ideas of the architects that formed the Sarasota School of Architecture during the 1950’s & 1960’s. The Tropical Modernism 2022 theme gave the audience a closer examination of design choices driven by climate. It was a fascinating journey of discovery to experience this exhibit at the McCulloch Pavilion which took a look back at various local buildings created by these select Sarasota architects. The exhibit was very effective to draw links of good design as seen around the world in various structures and with adapting those concepts to be most effective with dealing with our specific tropical and subtropical conditions found in our Gulf Coast of Florida region.
The specific architecture projects highlighted over the weekend with the exhibit, tours, symposiums and guest speakers thoughtfully laid out excellent examples of how important it is to keep mindful of climate demands when making assorted design choices in architecture. The groundbreaking work presented at the 2022 Sarasota MOD weekend did a marvelous job to showcase how tremendously impactful this design movement became globally.
