McCulloch Pavilion

Tiki Go Go Chef Service creates a fun Cinco de Mayo cocktail party for Architecture Sarasota Organization May 2023, as they celebrate with 70+ important folks that worked on preserving/repurposing project of the historic McCulloch Pavilion Building.  The McCulloch Pavilion serves as the headquarters for Architecture Sarasota. The Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation hosts it’s 2023 Heritage Award Ceremony the next evening and the McCulloch Pavilion Project wins First Place Award for Adaptive Reuse.

Known today as the McCulloch Pavilion, it was commissioned in 1959 and established as the Scott Building.  The pavilion once housed a showroom for Barkus Furniture Company, but Sarasota County bought it in 1999 and converted it into a print shop.  Cindy & Guy Peterson began the renovation project in 2011.  Guy Peterson is a renowned architect and he saw this building as an example of modernist architecture because of its transparency, its use of concrete and its terrazzo floors. Architect Guy Peterson was thrilled to have one of the original architects Joseph Farrell still living to help with the restoration. It is the first retail and commercial building in Sarasota to be fully restored and placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Architecture Sarasota stewards the legacy of the Sarasota School of Architecture and provides a forum for the education, advocacy and celebration of good design in the global built environment.  Through a series of rotating exhibitions, public educational programs, scholarly projects and community events, we are committed to engaging a wide audience toward our collective long-range goal of Preservation in perpetuity.” – From Architecture Sarasota
